Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show
The Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show is The CAC’s largest fundraising event each year. This premier Houston luncheon has grown to be one of the most highly anticipated events to attend every spring. The Spirit of Spring Luncheon includes a reception, auction, keynote speaker and showcases an incredible runway of spring fashions, all while helping to raise funds that directly support programs that The CAC offers to child victims of abuse. The 13th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show, Beautiful Journeys is set for April 4, 2012 at the InterContinental Hotel. This year’s fashion show partner is Neiman Marcus and we look forward to a stunning runway of fashions! We hope you will reserve your table or ticket soon for this very fun and uplifting event in support of the children and families served by The Children’s Assessment Center.

On April 1, 2011, the Regency Ballroom at the Omni Hotel was the place to be for a high energy and inspirational afternoon. The Children’s Assessment Center (The CAC) hosted the 12th Annual Spirit of Spring Fashion and Fragrance Soirée, The Power of One. Lakewood Church Choir delivered an upbeat performance getting guests in the spirit of the day right from the start, followed by Grammy Award Winning Gospel Singer, Israel Houghton, who performed his inspirational hit, “The Power of One”, that the event chairs hand-picked to coincide with the luncheon theme and inspire guests to see how one person really can make a difference in the fight against child abuse. There was no turning back from there, the event was off to a fabulous start and the excitement continued as Saks Fifth Avenue and Guerlain mingled fashion and fragrance in an innovative way that took guests on a magical journey through the history of Guerlain and the stories behind the fragrances. Fashion Show Producer, Lenny Matuszewski, put on a fantastic show with his creative talents.
Extraordinary event chairs Kimberly DeLape, Deborah Duncan and Alicia Smith contributed countless hours to produce this premier event, along with honorary chair, Pily Simón, who possesses a passion to help The CAC and child victims of abuse. This year’s event was generously underwritten by H-E-B and Leslie Alexander and The Houston Rockets, and the fashion show was underwritten by Momentum Porsche and Porsche West Houston. Amazing luncheon committee chairs contributing to the success of this event included Susan Boggio, Beth Bryant, Nancy Golden, Hershey Grace, Lindsey Love, Kim Moody, Bruce Padilla, Rachel Regan and Susan Williams-Olguin.
The event chairs recognized Rhonda Kuykendall who successfully participated in passing Jessica’s Law in Texas, which enhanced the punishment range for child molesters and overturned the Statute of Limitations, thereby ending the timeframe for reporting child abuse. Guests gave Rhonda a standing ovation for her efforts in changing lives for many generations to come. Stephen Lewis was the day’s auctioneer and helped bring in wonderful bids for an incredibly successful live auction!
CAC Board members in attendance included Board President, Debbie Martinez, along with Paulette Arana, Christopher DeClaire, Marta Mattox, Megan Sutton-Reed and Phyllis Williams. Also present was CAC Executive Director, Elaine Stolte, who commented that “Our Spirit of Spring event was a huge success due to our incredible group of supporters who continue to recognize the needs of abused children in our community; we are so grateful for continued support.” CAC Friends Guild Board members in attendance included Ericka Bagwell, Tena Faust, Ursaline Hamilton, Amy M. Lee, Lucinda Loya, Stephanie Perkins, Elizabeth Petersen and Merele Yarborough. Also in attendance were Darla Lexington, Senator Joan Huffman and Daryl and Rachel Bristow.
The day was an overwhelming success raising incredible funds for The Children’s Assessment Center to help child victims of abuse.
