Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are integral to our organization. Below you will find a list of volunteer opportunities that are available.
Playroom Volunteer
As a direct service volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in our on-site Playroom. Your role will be to establish rapport and create a comfortable and safe environment for children as they await services at The CAC. Responsibilities include providing food, clothing, emotional support, friendship, and an active environment where children, ages birth through 17, can play and explore. You may volunteer in the Playroom anytime it is open. The Playroom is open 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. We are not open during the weekends.
In order to work directly with the children we serve in the Playroom, you must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver's license or government issued ID and your social security card.
You will also need to:
1. Attend the next scheduled volunteer training - to register, email Vanessa.Martinez@cac.hctx.net.
2. Submit your application - information from the application will be used to run a criminal and CPS background check. The application will be sent to you upon registration for the training.
3. Attend a volunteer interview.
Special Event Volunteers
Throughout the year, The CAC hosts several events for the children we serve. We would love to have you join us. These opportunities are seasonal and include the Back to School events in August, and the Holiday events in December.
Internship Opportunities
The onsite Playroom at The CAC is a wonderful place for undergraduate students to spend time observing and interacting with child victims of abuse and traumatic events. We have established relationships with local colleges and universities and will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your internship with us. For more information, please email Vanessa.Martinez@cac.hctx.net.
Please note: The Therapy and Psychological Services Division of The Children’s Assessment Center (CAC) has an APPIC accredited Pre-doctoral Psychology Internship. The Internship runs from September 1st to August 31st of the subsequent year, and we accept two Interns. You are welcome to apply through APPIC and the normal match process. If you have any further questions regarding this program, please contact Lawrence Thompson, Jr., Ph.D., Director of Therapy & Psychological Services at The Children's Assessment Center.
It takes special people, with a special heart, to work with child victims of sexual abuse. We want to support our volunteers in every way we can. To this end, The CAC provides free trainings throughout the year to all CAC volunteers. We also work to provide pertinent, professional resources to our volunteers.
